THE LEAST OF THESE–WHO ARE THEY REALLY?

September 23rd, 2007

The assignment I gave Prayer Warriors was based on Matt. 25:31-45. The assignment was:

1) to blog on who they considered the least of these 2) to post by midnight tonight 3) NOT to look at anyone else in Prayer Warriors blog until theirs was posted and 4) pictures, poems, lyrics, etc. could be added as well.

The basic ideas was to get us to think beyond the norm.  To know what Jesus was asking us to do.

For me, I consider “the least of these” to be a BROAD spectum of people including, but not limited to, these in the following slide show.

NOTE: I COULDN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO PUT THE SLIDE ON VOX.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SEEING IT GO HERE. AND SCROLL DOWN ONE POST (OR TO THE POST ENTITLED ‘THE LEAST OF THESE’).

The bottom line for me is “the least of these” is ANYONE who needs help or service–even if it’s only for a season. Who more “naked and in prison” than the sex trafficked?  Who more hungry than the single mom working several jobs just to survive.Or who more hungry than the elderly living on a small pension or socil security living on bake beans or cat food?  Speaking of hunger, people hunger for more than just food, they hunger for “a voice”, for love, for someone to reach out to them, for help, etc.How about the thirsty? What are they thirsty for? Not just liquid, but living water. Thirsty for hope, for a friend, for a chance. Strangers? Strangers are sojourners–someone unknown by us. Maybe we know their faces or their names, but we don’t know them!  ”Doing for/to the least of these” is action not being passive. It is looking for and seeing what Jesus intended us to look for and see when he related this parable. It takes sacrifice, time, love and obedience.  It is a lifestyle.

And when we do something for “the least of these” it is as if (get that–AS IF) we did it for Jesus. Cool, huh?

Of corse there is the flip side of that–and that is a side I don’t want to be, nor intend to be, on.
